“Nothing much, just worrying about prom like everyone else!” Mandy tried to say casually, but she was sweating like crazy.

“Yeah! Everyone is getting so worked up over a silly dance!” Sadie commented. "I mean, it's meant to be fun with friends! It's not like it's a wedding or anything!"

“Yeah,” Mandy said. “By the way, are you planning to hang out with anyone specific at the prom?”

“Actually, yeah!” Sadie replied. “Fanby asked me a few days ago, and I told him I’d hang out with him. He’s so cute, he kept going on and on about how it was destiny and how this was like a fairy tale! How can you say no to that?”

“Yeah, how can you?” Mandy choked out. “Yeah, I was just curious, cause I wanted to see if you were as crazy about this prom as everyone else.”

“Ah,” Sadie said. “Well, I'm not, but it sounds like it'll be a fun night of hanging out and dancing and eating chips!”

“Okay,” Mandy said. Her throat felt swollen.

She quickly turned around and scurried off.

She passed by Chloe who was with Dasher.
“So will you two be dance partners at the prom?” Chloe asked Mandy.
Mandy stopped. She was holding bucketfuls of tears back. She worked herself up so much just to be let down below.

“Another guy beat me to asking her.”

“Oh no,” Chloe said softly. She hugged her, and Mandy let the tears flow out. “There there, it’s okay?”

They pulled apart slowly.
“I’m going to go to Canada for a couple days," Mandy told them. "I can’t be here right now. I’ll just be at Dance’s house hanging out with Kurt and Blaine.”
“Okay,” Chloe said softly, nodding.

“I know, I feel so bad for her,” Chloe said. “I mean, it must be horrible to be let down like that. If only everyone could have default dance partners like I do!”
