"Well, she's younger than you," Shuffle pointed out. "She's a little more needier than you."

"ENOUGH!" Chris barked. "Amelia has become such a spoiled little brat! You two are doing a terrible job at parenting her! Instead of teaching her how life works, you just take the easy way out and let her have her way! And frankly, I'm sick of coming second to her! It's time I got my way once! Just once!"
"Chris, it doesn't work that way."

Shuffle whispered in her ear, "But what if he's right about us? What if we aren't being firm parents to Amelia? What if we are giving her unfair advantages just because she's a youngster?"
"What does Chris know?" Lily whispered back. "We're the grown-ups here, right?"

"And she wouldn't stop yelling at me," Shane said weakly to his mom, Shona. He was telling her how him and his cousin, Amelia, got into a yelling fight over something and Amelia was being stubborn and rude.

Shuffle started slipping over his words. "Well, she's just a little one and I don't want her to start having temper tantrums. This is natural, right?"

"Yes," Shona replied. "For Amelia's age, it's pretty natural for her to be acting out a little bit. She's learning how to interact with the world. But at this age, it's crucial that you're up to speed with parenting skills. You need to be firm with her. You need to make sure she knows the difference between right and wrong."
