She would say, “oh, Magnus, you’re so sweet. Come join me! I’m watching Elf!”

(yes, I named the airline "one direction" because it was the only thing I could think of and a lot of people though 1D was an airline when they first heard of it; whatcha gonna do about it?)

Then he realized, wait, why am I thinking of all these ridiculous plans? All I really have to do is go online and cancel the trip.

Magnus had his plan.
He was going to make sure he and Riley had their perfect Christmas he was hoping for.

He logged on the computer and clicked around.
“There, I’ve halted their vacation. Now for the week of Christmas, Riley will be home with me and we’ll be happy and it will just be great!” Magnus said to himself. He knew that he would make Riley’s week perfect as long as she stayed away from that vacation.
So there was nothing wrong with interrupting her massively anticipated plans, right?
