Riley piped up. It suddenly hit her. "Why would they want to protect us from our own vacation?" she questioned extremely suspiciously.

"It was you, wasn't it?" Riley snapped. "You did this. You cancelled our vacation because you're SELFISH!"

"Okay, maybe I did," Magnus admitted. "But only because I wanted you here for those last days before you leave. You see, I have this whole plan where you and me could spend time together and—"

"But nothing!" She felt herself slowly breaking down. "Why?" she squeaked. "You say you care about me the most, yet you go and purposely ruin me and my Reindeer family's holiday plans! Wouldn't you want me to be happy?"

Magnus stared at her speechless while Riley waited for yet another awful response from him.

"But no, all you care about is how you feel. You can't think about other peoples' happiness first. And now I'm stuck in cold ol' Connecticut instead of a nice, warm, peaceful tropical island getting my stress level to a minimal before the big job." Her voice went quiet. "And Dasher and Kaylynn...who knows what they're feeling right now. And it's my fault because you did this because of me."

Kaylynn wrapped her paw around Riley, not knowing what to say except, "oh, Riley. It's okay. It's not your fault." Then she looked up and gave Magnus a disgusted look as Riley sulked.

Magnus couldn't bear this. He never wanted Riley to get hurt! He just wanted her around for the holidays. None of this was part of his fantasies. At this point, he felt like he didn't even know Riley because he wasn't expecting this response.
