“All I wanted for Christmas was to spend special quality time with Riley before she goes with you on the big Christmas Eve trip, but instead she's going on a vacation,” Magnus started to explain.

“I went online and cancelled her trip.” Magnus’s white cheeks turned bright red. Things started to click into his head.

“You know that was the wrong thing to do, right?” Santa replied in a confrontational tone.

Magnus looked down, knowing that Santa was right but didn’t want to admit it.

“You can just cancel an entire anticipated vacation that wasn’t yours just for selfish reasons,” Santa started to lecture. “Christmas isn’t all about what you want, Magnus. It’s about finding happiness and giving others whatever happiness you can give them. And Christmas almost never works out the way we want it to—we can’t always have those holiday fantasies we dream about.”

Santa paused for a minute to let all of that sink into Magnus’s head. “And in order to be fair to everyone else in the world, I need to make you suffer the consequences for doing the cruel act that you’ve done. I unfortunately have to put you on the naughty list and deny you of your gifts this year.”

"Yes," Santa affirmed. "I have to put you on the naughty list. You did something wrong and you have to deal with the consequence of no presents on Christmas this year."

"You know, Christmas is a little more than getting presents from me and living a little happy fantasy for a day."
