"I live in the house next door," he gestured with his body.

He turned back to them and began to cry. "Two years ago my owner, Abby, bought me because she thought I was cute and she was already collecting Beanie Babies to sell later on. For two weeks we were the best of friends. Then one day I accidentally went up to her and asked her to play while friends were over and they saw me." He began to cry even more and his voice went higher. "She refused to play with me ever since. It hurts so much!"

Chris took a deep breath and his voice became more normal. "I've been playing with Amelia because the only times I've been played with since that day was her dog and he's not gentle. So I'm also terrified of dogs."

Lily was in shock. "Oh my gosh I had no idea!"

There was a brief one-second silence. Then Lacey said, "Chris, I want you to stay right here."

The girls went up to Shuffle.
"We need to talk to you," Lacey said.
"Yeah," Lily said.

"But he need our help," Lacey said in a firm tone.

"I don't care," Shuffle said firmly back at her. "He doesn't seem like a safe person to be around."

"But Daddy!" Amelia whined at him.

"No, Amelia," he said firmly.

"Look, I know me and Lily weren't the bestest friends of yours, but Chris is troubled," Lacey said. "He has a bad home life and his only friend is Amelia. And now he's leaving and neither of them want to be separated."

"How do I know that it isn't all lies?" Shuffle fired back.

Lily stepped up and put on her firm voice. "Look, this isn't about me. This isn't about Lacey. This isn't even about Amelia. It's about Chris and how happy he'd be if he didn't have to leave Amelia behind. And we never ever ignore a Webkinz that is in need and you know that. And even you know what he needs."

Shuffle didn't say anything. He did know that. He sat there remembering that time when Lacey left the house the year before to go and find him when he was lost miles away and brought him home during a thunderstorm.
"Okay," he said in a calm tone.

He looked at Lily. "Lily, you go and find Kat and tell her that we're going to help Chris...permanently."
"Okay," Lily said.

Shuffle smiled. "Just go and tell your owner that you're gonna come live with us and you don't have to leave here forever."

"Abby, you don't have to donate me anymore," Chris said. "I'm going to live in the house next door."
