Hershica deals with the traumatic loss of a beloved Tamagotchi pet. Meanwhile, it's the winter solstice and the Zumbuddies have to get outside to charge their Zum powers. But for some reason, Madison won't let them outside.

I was with Kaylynn in the kitchen. It was early December 21st.
"So what kind of oatmeal do you and the Reindeer want?" I asked.
"I don't care," Kaylynn said.

"Is Raisins and Spice cool?" I asked reaching into the box of oatmeal packages.
"That's good," Kaylynn answered.

I took the packet and it rattled as we brought it to the counter. Kaylynn climbed up to the top to see what I was doing.

I poured the dry oatmeal and raisins into a plastic bag.

"Cool," I said. "Now for the magic stuff."

I poured in glitter. The little pieces very lightly pelted the oatmeal.

I sealed up the bag. "Perfect."

I placed the bag of contents on Kaylynn's back.
"Fly around so the ingredients mix," I instructed.
"Got it," Kaylynn said.

So she flew around.

Soon she finished.
"Now that looks like good Reindeer food!" I announced.

I petted Kaylynn. "And to think I could have done that all these years instead of wasting ten dollars each year at that silly holiday store at school when I was little."

Hershica came up to me.
"Hey, Kat!" she greeted. "Where's the Tamagotchi? I haven't seen it around and I really feel like playing with it!"
"It's in," I began; then I realized something and said, "oh no."

I sprinted to my room and Hershica scurried behind me.
"Huh?" Kaylynn asked. She was very confused. She ended up trailing behind.

We went to my room. I plopped down in front of my winter jacket.
"Where's my Tamagotchi?" Hershica asked.

I stuck my hand inside the cold pocket.
I closed my eyes and hoped that by some luck of the universe the thing would still be on Pause Mode.

Unfortunately, it was not. I sighed unhappily. There was an angel on the screen; the Tamagotchi pet was dead.
