Teddy moved closer to the young girls and Mandy moved to his side.
“Umm-” Teddy began awkwardly.

“Sophie, you like Teddy, right?” Mandy stepped in and interrupted, taking control of the talk because she felt like she could handle it well.
“Yeah! I like him as a friend!” Sophie replied.

“And that’s all, right?” Mandy questioned.

Taang raised an eyebrow and Teddy’s eyes widened. Why wasn’t she saying anything to Mandy? Was she just keeping it a secret or was she finally getting over it? What was her motivation for this?

“Sophie, how old are you in KatKinz Years?” Mandy asked.

“9!” Sophie answered.

“How old is Teddy in KatKinz Years?” Mandy asked.
“Umm-” Sophie said.
“17,” Taang interrupted with a plain face.
“Yes, 17,” Mandy said. “9 and 17? That’s an 8 year age difference. Very big. So, as you can see, you and Teddy can’t even really be friends. You can be kinda friends, but that’s it. But just understand that you and Teddy will never be animal mates. There’s Sophie, and there’s Teddy. There’s no Sophie and Teddy together. You’re only friends with Taang, not her brother. Got it?”
“Got it!” Sophie replied in an approving voice.

She skipped away, singing.

“Well that seemed to go over quite well,” Mandy said in a satisfied voice.
“Uuuuuuum,” was all Teddy could say.
“How did she respond to that so well?” Taang questioned, confused. “She was fighting with me before over this!”
“Maybe she just got over it,” Mandy assumed.
