March 20 - Spring Equinox
Featuring: Lacey the Yellow Lab
(Kat has a picture story on her camera about Chloe which will be posted today or tomorrow.)
Hey guys! It's Lacey! Today's a special day! It's an equinox! And equinox is when there's the same amount of day as night. So there's 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night. But why is there all this nonsense? Kat wrote a story about me and her a while ago explaining it.
Lacey the Yellow Lab wondered why it got darker in the fall quicker, and why it took less time for the night to come. Her mom explained to her about the cows of the Kinz Farm. You know when someone says "when the cows come home," they mean that it's dark, and the cows have to go home. The cows hate spending all day in the snow, and they don't have warm and cozy houses with heaters for during the day. So, during the winter, the cows asked the sun to go down earlier in the winter, and for it to stay longer in the summer, so they could play more in the summer. The sun said it would be okay, but as long as the sun would get two days per year where it could be out as long as the moon. Those days are the Equinoxes. The cows were fine with this, so now, the cows get to play all day in the summer, and can go home earlier in the cold winter. That's why we have Equinoxes, and those kinds of days.
Hope you know more about today! Happy Spring!
