Mandy scurried over to the girls who were chatting.
The chatter was stopped when Lacey greeted Mandy. "Hi, Mandy!"

"Can I join you guys in your sleepover?" Mandy asked excitedly. "I think it will help calm my nerves!"

"Sorry, Mand, but tonight it was just gonna be the 3 of us," Lacey rejected.

"We could have another even better sleepover next week!" Lily suggested.

"No, that's okay," a saddened and crushed Mandy replied as she turned away.

Mandy scurried off nearly in tears.
Why were people like her always turned away from sleepovers?
The poor squirrel was so hurt. She hated being who she was. She hated this secret part of her. People in the world treated her so differently even if they didn't know her secret. But if she wasn't who she was, who would she be?

Lacey, Lily, and Nicole felt really bad.
"I feel horrible," Lacey said.
"I know, but we'll figure out something we could do with her," Lily said.
"I hear that Gummy is having a private sleepover too with his sister," Nicole added.
"I wonder what Gummy is doing right now at his sleepover," Lacey thought out loud.
